Madison County Dog License
All Madison County dogs (both in Madison County and the Cities of Richmond and Berea) are required by law to have a dog license (aka: dog tag). Dog licenses are $5.00 plus tax and are the most efficient means of getting your dog back if he/she become lost. Dog licenses can be purchased at the Madison County Animal Shelter or online. Renewal begins on July 1 of each year.
Why is a License A County Law?
Dog licenses are required by County Ordinance and are used as proof of ownership. A copy of the serial number as well as the name, address, and phone number of the owner is retained by the Madison County Animal Shelter. Not only can animal control officers easily contact the owner of impounded canines, so they can be reclaimed, but private citizens who find dogs with a license on their collar can call the Madison County Animal Shelter for help finding the owner to avoid impounding the dog and the associated fees.
