Starting Salary: $16.00 / hr

Work Hours:This position typically works a regular 37.5 hour work week. This position works 7.5 hour shifts. 

Position Summary:Responsible for administration of the purchase order system, distribution of all county expenses and liabilities. Records and administers all county revenue.

High Attention to detail and strong data entry skills are key requirements. Professionalism, excellent written and verbal communications are essential.  Must be able to work independently or in a team environment.  Understanding of general accounting practices with the ability  to learn government regulations.

Essential Duties - including but not limited to:

  • Administer the purchase order system including troubleshooting and instruction for all users
  • Process requests for payments
  • Process purchase orders
  • Invoicing
  • Records all deposits into revenue accounts
  • Export reports from purchase order system
  • Enter data directly into financial software
  • Prepare vendor claims list for Fiscal Court Meetings
  • Audit claims list for errors
  • Process preapproval expenses
  • Maintains all record keeping compliant with KY State Archives
  • Establishes new accounts with vendors
  • Solves discrepancies with vendors by researching and interacting with department heads
  • Receives and sorts mail for finance office
  • Assist with Finance Officer and the County Treasurer with assigned tasks as needed
  • Assist auditors during annual audits

Knowledge:Individual must be proficient in accounting practices, all Microsoft products and standard operating office equipment. A background in and/or knowledge in Local Government   operations are preferred but not required.

Skills:This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills.  Competent data entry skills and critical thinking solutions are needed.

Education/Experience: Any Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and extensive accounting experience.

Additional Requirements:Valid Driver’s License.

Starting Salary: $14.00 / hr

Work Hours:This position typically works a regular 40-hour workweek plus some scheduled overtime. This position works twelve-hour shifts. This position has a rotating schedule and is organized by shift work. Position is subject to emergency call back status when an Executive Order is declared or if a facility emergency has occurred.

Position Summary:This position is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment to maintain and lodge all inmates remaining in the Detention Center. This position oversees the daily activities and ensures that all work is completed on shift. This position requires the capability of making sound, independent and immediate life or death decisions as they are warranted. This position shall be able to be physically capable of defending themselves, fellow employees, inmates and the community at large, at all times. This position serves as a peace office of the Commonwealth of Kentucky for Madison County, with all the rights, privileges and duties assigned by law. In the absence of the Captain, this position would be the decision maker and supervisor on shift. When the Captain in present, this position shall assist the Captain in decision making, if needed.

Essential Duties - including but not limited to:

  • Enforces all rules and regulations for the Detention Center;
  • Assists other law enforcement agencies as requested and/or directed in a professional manner;
  • Manages all shift staff professionally;
  • Initiates all paperwork that has to be completed from incidents that occur during shift in a timely manner;
  • Operate and train others in computer systems and jail management system;
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work under extreme stress;
  • Conducts investigations on incidents that occur during shift;
  • Responsible for the supervision and administration of shift staff including quality control and accuracy of the work of those whom they supervise;
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with inmates, staff and other agencies;
  • Instructs, trains and coaches’ staff on all laws, rules, regulations and facility policies and procedures;
  • Acquire a minimum of 24 hours per KY State Department of Corrections;
  • Maintains a safe and secure facility; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:Individual must be able to effectively communicate, lead and manage people and tasks. Individual must be able to problem solve and make correct command decisions. Individual must have the ability to work with outside government and law enforcement agencies in a manner that represents the Detention Center and County Government in a positive manner. Individual must be proficient in all Microsoft Office products. A background in and/or knowledge of correctional facility functionality, employee management and prior supervisory skills is preferred.

Skills:This position requires strong communication, computer skills and interpersonal skills.  Individual must be detailed oriented, organized and willing to work in a team-oriented environment. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information is required. This position must be able to maintain professionalism and calmness in all situations of extreme pressure and stress.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent.  This position requires one year of experience or a combination of higher education in a related field with some experience. 

Additional Requirements:Valid Driver’s License. Legally able to work within the United States.

General Physical Requirements (Based on average workday essential functions): Medium-Duty: May be required to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. On a more regular basis, the worker may be required to constantly exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.

Deputy Jailer- Full Time
