New-Ferry-Tow-Boat

The Valley View Ferry Tow Boat, “The John Craig II”

The new tow boat pictured above will be delivered to the Clays Ferry Boat Ramp Tuesday afternoon, December 2nd. The Boat was constructed by Grandview Welding Company Tompkinsville, KY for the Valley View Ferry.

The boat is being purchased with a $600,000 grant from Ferry Boat Discretionary Funds, a federal grant program administered by the Federal Highway Works Administration and $ 100,000 in local matching funds. The Valley View Ferry Authority has received $25,000 each from Fayette, Jessamine and Madison Counties for their local match. The ferry authority is providing an additional $25,000 match with proceeds from the sale of their current boat “The John Craig” that was built in 1996. The John Craig will continue to serve motorist crossing the Green River on the Rochester Ferry in Butler
County, KY.

The Valley View Ferry will be closed beginning Tuesday at noon until further notice to allow time to bring the new tow boat down river and make changes that will be required for connection of the new boat to the ferry’s car barge.
